The week between Palm Sunday and Easter Sunday, Holy Week, is the most sacred time for Catholic Christians. During this time, we enter into the passion of Christ, his crucifixion, death and resurrection. Our practices of Lent are in order to prepare us for the three days of the Triduum (Holy Thursday, Good Friday and Easter Vigil/Easter Sunday) as the center of our faith.
HOLY THURSDAY
The evening Mass on Holy Thursday begins the Sacred Triduum. We remember the Last Supper and the celebration of the institution of the Holy Eucharist and the Sacrament of Holy Orders. We remember when Jesus washed the feet of his disciples as an example of how we are called to serve one another.
GOOD FRIDAY
On Good Friday we remember the suffering and death of Jesus. The service for this day is divided into the Reading of the Passion from the Gospel, Veneration of the Cross and reception of the Eucharist. The veneration of the Cross is a time for each of us to reflect on how Jesus suffered for our salvation.
HOLY SATURDAY
The Easter Vigil brings the Sacred Triduum to a close. It is the high point of the liturgical year. The Easter Vigil begins in darkness and is followed by the procession into the church with the Easter candle. The services of Holy Saturday bring us into the liturgical season of Easter – a time that lasts for 50 days, under the Feast of Pentecost and we remember the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the apostles.
La semana entre el domingo de Ramos y el Domingo de Pascua, Semana Santa, es el tiempo más sagrado para los Católicos Cristianos. Durante este tiempo, entramos en la pasión de Cristo, su crucifixión, muerte y resurrección. Nuestra práctica de cuaresma es para prepararnos para los tres días del Triduo (Jueves Santo, Viernes Santo y la Vigilia de la Pascua/Domingo de Pascua) como centro de nuestra fe.
JUEVES SANTO
La Misa en la tarde del Jueves Santo comienza el Triduo Sagrado. Recordamos la Ultima Cena y la celebración de la institución de la Santa Eucaristía y el Sacramento del Santo Sacerdocio. Recordamos cuando Jesús lavo los pies de sus discípulos como ejemplo de ser llamados para servirnos los unos a los otros.
VIERNES SANTO
En viernes Santo recordamos el sufrimiento y muerte de Jesús. El servicio de este día esta dividido en tres Lecturas de la Pasión del Evangelio. Veneración de la Cruz y recepción de la Eucaristía. La veneración de la Cruz es un tiempo para cada uno de nosotros de reflexionar en como Jesús sufrió para nuestra salvación.
SABADO SANTO
La Vigilia de la Pascua cierra el Santo Triduo. Es un punto alto del ano litúrgico. La Vigilia de la Pascua comienza en oscuridad y sigue con la procesión entrando al templo con la vela Pascual. Con los servicios del Sábado Santo entramos a la temporada litúrgica de la Pascua – este tiempo dura 50 días, bajo la Fiesta de Pentecostés y recordamos la venida del Espíritu Santo sobre sus apóstoles.
